Justin le Juste: Alban Ivanov as a reluctant hero in the trenches

Éric Barbier's new film will premiere at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival

1915. Justin, a naive farmer who only dreams of returning to his fields, is forcibly enlisted in the French army to fight an enemy he doesn't know, in the name of a law he doesn't understand. His encounter with Basile, a Senegalese rifleman, changes his view of this senseless war: together, they rise up against the injustice of blind command, and Justin becomes an unlikely hero.

Starring Alban Ivanov, alongside Alexandra Lamy and Birane Ba (De la Comédie-Française), the film adapts Justin le Juste ou La charrette, a novel by Jean Pompougnac published in 1967. It's Éric Barbier's 8th feature film; he previously adapted Promise at Dawn and Small Country for the screen.

Ahead of its theatrical release, Justin le Juste will premiere at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, running from August 24th to 29th, 2026.
