The film is an adaptation of Albert Camus’ novel The Stranger, which recounts the story of an ordinary man confronted with the absurdity of existence and the human condition. The film follows Meursault’s journey, from the announcement of his mother’s death to his conviction for homicide a year later. It highlights the pessimistic and absurd nature of the human condition by depicting a man who takes life as it comes, follows his instincts, and does not trouble himself with social expectations.
